Bass Fishing Tips For The Beginner

                           Bass Fishing Tips For Beginners

Bass are one of those fish that not only taste great but are incredibly fun to catch. They typically don’t just nibble on some bait but instead, swallow it whole and run with it, giving the best fight per pound of almost any fish.

Bass like the warmer, brackish waters of slow-moving rivers and streams, and of ponds and lakes as well. Let’s take a look at some great bass fishing tips for beginners to get you started catching one of the premier fighting fish.

Bass Like Lures That Look Like Bait

Of course, bass will eat almost anything. They are not picky eaters at all but you will want to find lures that get them biting uncontrollably. If the bass you are fishing for are living in a stream or lake that has soil banks, then most likely, they are exposed to salamanders and lizards. These small creatures like staying near water because there is plenty of food to eat there, and the bass like to come in close to shore and gobble them up.

You can almost always find small rubber lizard replicas at your local sporting goods stores. You will want to get several sizes of them. Most bass will eat baits that are surprisingly large, but a bigger fish can always eat smaller food, but not the other way around. Also, if there are a lot of tiny catfish or bullheads where you’re fishing, you can use a larger lure to keep these small aggressive fish from wasting your time. Choose darker colors for murky waters and lighter colors for clearer waters. You should keep both on hand, just in case.

Bass like food that has a lot of action. That is what they are looking for and their brains are tuned into seeing and attacking food that is moving. Stationary baits work better for other fish, but not bass. So keep it moving all the time to attract more fish strikes. Larger hooks won’t scare them away and will help to keep them hooked while they are fighting.

Go Where The Bass Are Hiding

One of the best bass fishing tips is that you have to fish where they are. They aren’t typically hanging out in the deep cold waters in the middle of the rivers and lakes. Instead, they like to hide in the weeds, next to stumps and where the tall grass is growing. They wait in those places because there is a constant supply of bugs and other small creatures falling into the water for them to eat. The biggest bass will usually be in the thickest cover.

Some of the hardest places to fish are going to be where the largest bass are hiding. You will want to do some research by tipping over some underwater rocks to see what scrambles away. If there are crawfish, that what you want to use as bait. You can use either a live crawfish or a plastic one.

The most important thing you need to know so that you can catch lots of bass is to find out the food that is naturally available to them and imitate it with a lure, or use the live bait and thread a hook into it. Bass that feed on one type of food for years will simply be looking for more of the same and they will easily recognize it and strike immediately.

If you’re new to a certain bass fishing area, it’s always a good idea to stop at the local bait store and see what works there. You should also look to see what’s under the rocks near the area you are in and be sure to look inside the stomach of your first catch. Bass fishing is a blast and very addictive. Once you’re hooked, you will want to head out on a fishing adventure several times per year.
